Attorney Asfar M. Basha counsels Vermont individuals, families, business owners, and nonprofit founders on estate planning, personal injury, probate and trust administration, and business and nonprofit formation. To date, he has helped Vermonters structure several million dollars in assets to bypass probate, privatize the administration of their estates, and leave lasting legacies for their beneficiaries. His practice is built on transparent flat-fee engagements, direct attorney time on every matter, and holistic solutions designed to accomplish each client's objectives while minimizing unnecessary legal cost and court involvement.

Culturally Competent Representation

Attorney Basha was born and raised in Burlington, Vermont, as a first-generation American whose family immigrated from South India. His firsthand experience accompanying his family through the U.S. legal and immigration systems as a child informs a lifelong commitment to accessible representation, and to providing culturally, religiously, and linguistically competent counsel to clients whose planning calls for careful nuance.

Education and Honors

Attorney Basha earned his Juris Doctor from Vermont Law School through its accelerated J.D. program, where he received Academic Excellence Awards in Legal Research and in the Race and the Law Seminar. He served as a Teaching Assistant in Civil Procedure to Dean Beth McCormack and in Constitutional Law to Professor Greg Johnson. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Vermont, completed in three years.

Vermont Supreme Court Externship

In his final semester of law school, Attorney Basha served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Nancy J. Waples, Associate Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. In that role, he drafted significant portions of the Court's decision in State v. Phillips, 2024 VT 10.

Founding Basha Law

Attorney Basha founded Basha Law, PLLC in early 2025 to build a modern practice that delivers holistic legal services, leverages technology to reduce client cost, and increases the overall accessibility of the legal system, particularly for Vermont clients traditionally underserved by conventional legal representation. Prior to founding the firm, he performed multi-state regulatory research, employment law analysis, and policy drafting for a national healthcare staffing agency — early exposure to the compliance and governance considerations that inform his current business and nonprofit practice.

Attorney Basha is a member of the Vermont Bar Association and serves on the Board of the Free Access Health Clinic in South Burlington, a nonprofit clinic providing free medical care to uninsured and underinsured Vermonters throughout Chittenden County and the surrounding area.
